Like many, my mom has been an inspiration in various fields but one that I am the most proud of is her culinary skills. My mom has never attended a culinary school or attended any sorts of training. Her love for cooking comes from her love for her kids and family. She believes in simple, healthy yet tasty food. Among her multiple tasty and healthy dishes, fish curry with soup is the one which stands out the most. It is simple, healthy and delicious.
 
The ingredients required are mostly nothing fancy and readily available in our kitchen. It takes 20-30 minute of your time. It's a perfect dish for people who likes to work less inside kitchen and who wants to have a watering meal. Also can be a great menu for festive times.

Let start making the dish. As mentioned earlier the ingredients required are easily available in our home kitchen.

                            



Ingredients: 500 Gram of freshly and finely cut fish. I am using Carpo fish ( Rohu).
: 2-3 table spoon cooking oil.
: One medium chopped onion.
: One medium chopped tomatoes.
: One table spoon ginger garlic paste.
: 1/2 table spoon turmeric.
: 1-1/2 table spoon salt.
: 1 table spoon coriander and cumin powder each.
:Mustard seed.
: Cumin seed.
: Curry leaves and coriander leaves ( optional).

Step 1
Heat your cooking pan to a medium flame. Add cooking oil, mustard seeds and cumin seeds to add flavour to the dish. Then add onions and curry leaves(optional). Saute until the onions trun into translucent brown. Add ginger garlic paste. Saute for few minute untill the raw smell from the paste is completely vanished.

Step 2
Adding tomatoes  at a right time is vey important. Tomatoes is know for making gravy thick and consistent. The right time to add tomatoes is when you see that onions turned into translucent brown.

Step 3
All the spices has to cook thoroughly for perfect flavor. Once the tomatoes are fully cooked, add cumin powder( 1 table spoon), coriander powder ( 1 table spoon), turmeric ( 1/5 small table spoon), salt ( according to taste), Chilli powder( 1/5 small table spoon(Optional). Saute all the spices for good 3-4 mints. 

Step 4.
Once all the spices are cooked thoroughly , add 1/2 cup of water and close the lid. Let it simmer for 5 minute. This is done to blend all the spices and vegetables together. 

Step 5
When you see that the vegetable and spices are perfectly blended. Add 4 cups of water, let it boil for 1-2 minute. Then our perfectly cut bite size fish goes in the pan.
After adding the fish, close the lid. Let it cook for 30 minutes. If you want to add more soup, you can add 1-2 cups of water as per your requirement. But make sure, you boil it again for 20-30 minute. 

Your fish soup curry is ready to serve. You can garnish with coriander leaves ( Optional). Usually I add coriander leaves just before turning off the gas.
You can serve the fish curry with soup with hot steam rice. Happy eating!
 



                  


We need to keep a few hygiene tips, while buying fish. Make sure the fish is fresh and thoroughly cleaned.

- Look for firm, shiny flesh: The flesh of the fish should bounce back on touching it.
- The skin has a natural metalic glow and should not look dull.
- This is my favorite trick taught by my dad, the deep red color of gill filament is a good indication that fish is fresh and healthy.
- The surface of a skin must be tight and the scales might be tightly attached.
- Cracked skin or loose scales could be sign of rotting fish.


 


There are different types of fish, out of which mostly used in India are Rohu , Katla, Mackerel, Mahseer. The best thing about  any fish curry soup is that they give  you authentic taste. Fish are known to have multiple benefits.
